About Kootie Bug What is a Kootie Bug you ask? A child may tell you that it is a small purple-striped, green polka-dotted bug with balloons for wings, black high tops for shoes, and large daffodil antennas…. Actually, Kootie Bug is the lifelong nickname of North Carolina artist, Kristen Sloop; a name given to her by her daddy when she was just a tiny little girl.
Kristen with John, Katherine, and Eliza October 2007 Kristen’s whimsical art personifies her nickname, Kootie Bug; other meanings certainly include endearing, charming, delightful, and lovely . Kristen creates designs that are fun, vibrant with color, and perfect for children of all ages. For the last twelve years, Kristen has provided unique artwork for children’s rooms including paintings, murals, hand-painted furniture, personalized baby pillows, and many other kid accessories. Kristen received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History and Biology from Sweet Briar College in 1993. Her studies in art included a semester in Vienna, Austria. A native of Winston-Salem, NC, she currently lives in Raleigh, NC, with her husband, David, and three children, John (7), Eliza (4), and Katherine (2). Kootie Bug Designs produces, markets, and wholesales giclee canvases of Kristen’s original paintings. Her designs are available in various designs, colors, and sizes.
